Liepājas Municipal Enterprise 'Port of Liepaia' is the third-largest harbour facility in Latvia and an important economic institution in the regional network. The port has a capacity of 7,232,197.34 tonnes and handles 1,602 vessels per year. The company is a member of the Zilker Ring, a group of harbour facilities that received 37 international environmental certificates. It is also part of the Liepājas Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and works closely with local authorities to create an attractive business environment for companies. The SEZ was founded in 1992 and has since invested more than 478 million euros in production capacities.
