Mercy Ships Norway is a charitable organization specializing in the provision of medical aid and education in Africa. The company operates two of the largest civil ships in the world: "Africa Mercy" and "Global Mercy". These ships are stationed at ports in western and central African countries, south of the Sahara, where the need for surgical interventions and medical assistance is most pressing. Since 1978, Mercy Ships has helped more than 290,000 people in Africa through surgical operations, dental care, and the training of local medical and nursing staff.
