Sea Heritage Foundation is a not-for-profit charitable foundation established in 2004 by Dereck Emmerson Elliott. Its mission includes preserving and disseminating Australian maritime and marine history through the use of the historical Commonwealth Lighthouse Service Ship MV Cape Don. The ship, built in Newcastle, NSW, in January 1963, originally served on important shipping routes along Australia's coast. Currently, the ship is in the planning phase for a major refit at Garden Island Dry Dock in Sydney, for external repairs. The Foundation collaborates with a crew of volunteers from the MV Cape Don Society to advance ship conservation. Additionally, Sea Heritage Foundation plans to use the ship to provide training and employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians.
