Biostoom Oostende is a company specialized in producing electricity from residual waste. Annually, the Biostoom power plant in Oostende supplies electrical energy to 45,000 households based on the combustion of 183,000 tonnes of prepared industrial or household waste. The power plant equipment has been attached to Charter Duurzaam Ondernemen since 2010 and has received the Voka Charter Duurzaam Ondernemen certificate every year, including the SDG Pioneer Certificate from UNITAR in October 2020. The power plant installation at Biostoom Oostende is fully automated and processes biomass waste through a series of processes to generate electricity. NOx emissions are 64% below the normative value of 120 mg/Nm³, CO with 16% below 50 mg/Nm³, and TOC with 4% below 10 mg/Nm³.
