The New Zealand Ship & Marine Society was founded in 1949 and was a gathering of people from various sectors of society and countries who were interested in ships and maritime activities. The website contains articles, books, historical information on shipping companies and personalities, as well as photos and other media. The society was formally dissolved in 2019, but the website is still retained as a Maritime Heritage Site to provide historical sea transportation information. The website offers access to 440 ships, 69 books, 302 articles from the "New Zealand Marine News" and further resources. The society's board was founded by Mark Johnston and later continued by Captain John Brown.
