Baker Hughes and Venture Global Expand US LNG Infrastructure

U.S.-based energy technology company Baker Hughes has secured significant contracts from Venture Global, an American producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) sourced from North American basins, to support the latter's major U.S. LNG infrastructure buildout. According to Offshore Energy, this partnership deepens as Venture Global advances its expansion plans.

Baker Hughes Supplies Gas Compression Systems

Baker Hughes has been awarded an order to supply 13 gas compression systems for the Cloud Connector Pipeline. These systems will be driven by Frame 5/2E gas turbines, designed to transport feed gas through the pipeline to the Plaquemines LNG facility in Louisiana. Offshore Engineer reports that this deployment marks one of the largest such systems for LNG feed gas transportation in the United States.

The Cloud Connector order brings the fleet supporting Plaquemines LNG to 23 systems, significantly enhancing the pipeline's capacity to deliver feed gas to the facility. Baker Hughes will also supply four liquefaction blocks, each comprising two electric-motor-driven, single mixed-refrigerant liquefaction modules and associated compression trains, using centrifugal compressor technology.

Expansion of Plaquemines LNG Facility

For the expansion of the Plaquemines LNG facility, Baker Hughes will provide liquefaction equipment that includes Chart cold boxes and integrated control systems. Each block will use two liquefaction modules, along with associated compression trains featuring Baker Hughes’ centrifugal compressor technology.

Strategic Partnership and Market Impact

Additionally, Venture Global has inked another 20-year sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with Chinese natural gas operator China Gas, according to LNG Prime. This agreement solidifies Venture Global’s commitment to expanding its LNG exports to international markets, particularly China.

The signing of this long-term SPA with China Gas is part of Venture Global’s broader strategy to secure long-term supply contracts, thereby ensuring a stable and predictable revenue stream for its expanding LNG projects.
