Axpo Italia has partnered with Vitol to complete the first ship-to-ship (STS) liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker delivery at Italy’s Port of Civitavecchia. According to gCaptain, this operation was carried out on a Silversea cruise vessel using Axpo's Green Pearl, which can hold 7,500 cubic metres (cbm). The move comes as part of Axpo Italia’s strategy to develop a supply chain focused on low-emission fuels for the maritime sector and heavy transportation. This follows successful LNG bunkering operations in Genoa and Naples.

Axpo Italy, based out of Switzerland, has expanded its LNG bunkering services by collaborating with Vitol, a global energy trader. Simone Demarchi, CEO of Axpo Italia, emphasized the importance of expanding infrastructure to support the transition to cleaner fuels. Stefan Dubbeldam, head of small-scale LNG & LNG bunkering at Vitol, highlighted their role in the value chain from production to supply.
The Green Pearl entered service in 2026 and is part of a growing fleet that includes chartered vessels such as Alisios LNG. Axpo Italia continues to invest in infrastructure, with plans to expand its bunkering operations further across Italy.
