Nautical Archaeology Society is a charity dedicated to the preservation, protection, and research of nautical heritage. Founded in 1975, it offers an award-winning education programme that has been running for over 30 years and includes internationally recognised accreditation. The society recently received funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to protect coastal archaeology at Sandwich Bay, Kent. It also runs the London Shipwreck Project to preserve the Thames Estuary's shipwrecks. In 2011, it won the inaugural Archaeology Training Forum Award. With a membership of over 300 individuals and organisations worldwide, the society has been active in various projects such as investigating colonial port development through the Lloyd’s Register Archive and hosting international workshops on potentially polluting wrecks.
