Dutch Boatmen Association (DBA) was founded in 1977. The DBA is the trade organization for all Dutch boatmen, promoting their interests, providing advice, and facilitating experience exchange. Since 1983, all Dutch boatmen must follow a training program to obtain the official 'boatmen certificate', which is registered in the Dutch Boatmen Register. The DBA complies with the ISO 9001 and VCA quality management system standards. Most boatmen are certified in first aid and/or ADN. The DBA is a member of the European Boatmen’s Association (EBA) and the International Boatmen’s Linesmen’s Association (IBLA), representing boatmen from around the world and promoting professional development. The DBA has developed its own general terms and conditions (Nederlandse Bootlieden Condities 2023) for its affiliated members.
