The Shalimar Works (1980) Limited was established as a fully owned West Bengal unit in January 1981 by taking over the assets of the former firm. Originally founded in 1885 by Turner Morrison, UK, it initially operated as a ship repair service for incoming foreign ships. The company is capable of repairing and building up to 65 meters long vessels with a draft of 3. 5 meters, and can simultaneously build or repair up to three or five ships. Since October 2012, the company has delivered four ships to the Indian Navy. The NS Poshak, a self-propelled fuel tanker, was built by the company and can carry 500 tons of fuel.
