International Petroleum Museum & Exposition is a non-profit organization headquartered in Morgan City, Louisiana. Its primary goal is the preservation and interpretation of artifacts and information about the Western oil and gas industry sector. The company operates the Rig Museum, which is a unique historical object known as Mr. Charlie-Rig, a mobile, submersible platform that was used between 1954 and 1986 in the Gulf of Mexico. The Mr. Charlie-Rig was the first transportable offshore drilling rig that established a bridge between the current offshore drilling technology. They hold a National Historic Landmark certificate and offer free tours for students. The museum was built in 1952 and put into operation in 1954, primarily for Shell Oil Company. The Mr. Charlie-Rig was 220 feet long and 74 feet wide under the derrick.
