Intering GmbH was founded in 1969 by Horst Halten and had its headquarters in Norderstedt, near Hamburg. The company focused on the development of ship stability systems, both for static operations in port and to reduce rolling motions at sea. In 1972, Intering combined a U-Tank roll damping system with a Blower Anti-Heeling System on the M/V Algol, and in 1981, the company integrated these technologies on the research icebreaker "Polarstern", which enabled it to break through 1.5 meter thick ice. In 2001, Intering GmbH was taken over by Rolls-Royce Marine and since 2017, the company is part of Hoppe Marine.
