Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) is a major environmental foundation in Europe, founded in 1990 and operating since 1991. It supports innovative, model-based, and solution-oriented projects to protect the environment, with a special focus on the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises. Since its inception, DBU has funded over 11,500 projects with a total volume of approximately 2.18 billion euros. The foundation is involved in various areas such as green start-ups, promotions stipends, and MOE fellowships. DBU also publishes a yearly report and has a presence on social media platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Flickr, and YouTube. As of August 2026, the foundation had supported a DBU-Umweltpreisträger, Prof. Dr. Haber, who passed away on August 11, 2026.
