AMCO, or African Marine Conservation Organisation, focuses on safeguarding aquatic wildlife in Africa through research, conservation, and ecotourism initiatives. AMCO's projects include the Pro-CAMPO initiative, which strengthens two Marine Protected Areas in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, and targets species such as sea turtles, manatees, dolphins, whales, sharks, and rays. AMCO also works on an illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing program aimed at strengthening marine ecosystems and fisheries governance. Founded in 2015, AMCO has been operational for 11 years and has launched 11 ongoing funded projects at 6 operational sites. At the 11th Our Ocean Conference in Mombasa, Kenya, AMCO showcased its marine conservation initiatives and engaged potential supporters.
