Virgin Island Search & Rescue (VISAR) was founded in 1988 as an autonomous, para-professional and mandatory charitable organization search and rescue team. The team consists of fully trained volunteers who have invested over 27,000 hours in training, meetings, and achieving their mission, namely "Saving Lives at Sea". VISAR has two rescue boats: a 32-foot Rafnar RIB with twin 250 hp outboard motors at Road Reef Marina in Tortola and another 32-foot Rafnar RIB with twin 225 hp outboard motors at Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour. The company is fully equipped with the latest medical, maritime safety technologies, search and rescue equipment, and communication systems. VISAR was founded in 1988 and currently employs a team of fully trained volunteers, trainers, and coordinators.
