Texas A&M Maritime Academy was founded in 1962 and is one of the six maritime academies in the United States. It provides its students with the opportunity to participate in land and sea training and to sail on a state-run training boat to acquire practical skills in sailing, navigation, and machine operation. Upon completion of the program, cadets are admitted to the merchant marine officer profession and can focus on the challenging field of maritime traffic development. The academy introduced a new regulation in summer 2025, requiring all incoming cadets to pay state tuition fees. The campus grounds are located in Galveston, Texas.
