Maritime Law Assoc of the USA (MLA) is the oldest and established maritime legal organization in the United States, founded in 1899. It has as its goals the reform of maritime law, to promote judicial administration and uniformity of its legislation, as well as to provide a forum for problems in the field of maritime law. The MLA is a member of the Comité Maritime International and affiliated with the American Bar Association. It offers four types of membership: Associate Lawyer Member, Judicial Member, Academic Member, and Law Student Member. The association has approximately 400 members, including attorneys, judges, jurists, and industrial professionals.
