SS Explorer Preservation Society is a Scottish charitable organization dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the historic Fisheries Research Vessel SS Explorer. Built in 1955 by Alexander Hall and Co., the vessel served Scotland’s Marine Laboratory for 28 years before being moored in Leith, Edinburgh. The society aims to fully restore the ship and establish a publicly accessible berth with a shoreside interpretation center that will function as a maritime museum and educational resource. SS Explorer Preservation Society has not dry docked since 1989, and plans are underway for necessary major works, which require fundraising support. Volunteers play a crucial role in maintaining the vessel’s condition. The society also offers tours of the ship to the public.
