Western Pacific Fisheries is a Regional Fishery Management Council that has existed since 1976 and manages fisheries in federal waters around Hawai‘i, American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Pacific Remote Islands. The Council's decisions are based on scientific knowledge and consider traditional knowledge and cultural practices. They work on ecosystem-based fisheries policies and focus on securing responsible, sustainable fisheries that support local economies, promote indigenous resource management, and contribute to national food security.
