Paternoster Fishery is a last remaining commercial prawn fishing company in South Africa with three operational boats. The firm catches West Coast Rock Prawns (Jasus Ialandii) in the cold Atlantic waters southwest of Africa, particularly in the coastal area of Paternoster. The prawns are caught using bait-trap nets and immediately placed on ice. They are held for five days in a saltwater tank at the fishing factory in Paternoster before being transported fresh and alive in thermobuffered boxes between wooden pallets. The product is then shipped to world markets by air freight. Paternoster Fishery is a family business with a history of over fifty years in the fishing village of Paternoster, southwest of Cape Town. The firm is closely linked to the community and contributes to the quality of life of its employees.
