Koninklijke Marine is the Coast Guard of the Netherlands and is responsible for the safety of the North Sea. Their main activities include Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, disaster response, explosive ordnance disposal, maritime management, radio services, medical services, lighthouse marking, and traffic control. They also handle security measures in shipping safety, environmental protection, law enforcement, and security communications on board merchant ships. The Coast Guard works closely with various organizations including the Koninklijke Marechaussee, Rijkswaterstaat, and the Koninklijke Nederlandse Redding Maatschappij (KNRM). They have their main center in Den Helder and are active 24/7. The Coast Guard has appointed Nicole Kuipers as their new director, after she had stood at the helm of the institute for four years.
