According to Offshore Engineer, U.S.-based geotechnical and offshore survey company TDI-Brooks has been awarded a contract to conduct comprehensive geophysical and geotechnical surveys for the Delfin Deepwater Port Project, located off the coast of Louisiana. This project, set to become the first U.S. offshore LNG export facility using floating production technology, is being spearheaded by Delfin LNG.

The contracted work will involve detailed seabed and subsurface data acquisition through geophysical survey activities, with the R/V Brooks McCall expected to begin operations at the end of August. Simultaneously, a geotechnical investigation phase is scheduled for late September, to be managed in partnership with Tolunay-Wong Engineers, Inc. (TWE). These surveys are crucial for supporting the infrastructure development necessary for the project's execution.

Project Details and Challenges

The Delfin LNG project aims to install up to three floating LNG vessels with a combined capacity of around 13.2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), targeting approximately 4.4 mtpa from its first unit. Leveraging existing infrastructure, including the UTOS pipeline system, the project is expected to reduce capital requirements while significantly contributing to the U.S. energy sector.

According to Offshore Energy, TDI-Brooks will serve as the prime contractor, undertaking a wide range of tasks necessary for the project's success. These include detailed survey work that will provide critical data to guide the development and implementation phases.
