Sanmar Shipyards has delivered another new Boğaçay Class tugboat to SAAM Towage, bringing the total number of Sanmar-built vessels in SAAM Towage's fleet to 17. This delivery, the sixth in under a year, underscores the strong partnership between the two companies and their commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
New Tugboat Specifications
The tug, named SAAM CARIBE, is based on the RAmparts 2400SX-MKII design developed exclusively for Sanmar by Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd. It features a bollard pull of 72 tonnes and a free-running speed of 13 knots. The tug’s dimensions are an overall length of 24.4 meters, a moulded beam of 12.0 meters, and a least moulded depth of 4.5 meters. It also has a navigational draft of 5.45 meters. Additionally, the tug is equipped with twin Z-drive Kongsberg US 255S P30 FP azimuth thrusters, a TW-E 250 kN forward towing winch, and a DTH 90-135P aft towing hook, providing enhanced manoeuvrability and towing capabilities.
SAAM CARIBE complies with IMO Tier III emissions standards and incorporates CAT selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to further reduce NOx emissions. The tug also benefits from a high level of automation, aiding in operational efficiency.
Operational Impact and Fleet Renewal
SAAM CARIBE will join SAAM Towage operations at Cartagena, a major port on the northern coast of Colombia. This addition to the fleet supports SAAM Towage’s ongoing fleet renewal and decarbonisation programme, aiming to modernise and green its operations.
