The hydrocarbon business of Indian engineering conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured significant contracts from India’s Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), totalling between 5,000 and 10,000 crore ($525m to $1bn). The orders are for two major projects off the west coast of India: a Pipeline Replacement Project (PRP-X) and Wellhead Platforms. According to Splash 247 and Offshore Technology, these contracts involve extensive engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) work.
Pipeline Replacement Project (PRP-X)
The PRP-X project entails the EPCIC of multiple subsea pipeline segments across ONGC’s offshore fields. This includes associated modification works to existing infrastructure. Offshore Technology reports that this is part of a broader effort by ONGC to modernise its field operations and improve efficiency.
Wellhead Platforms Project
The Wellhead Platforms project involves the delivery of four wellhead platforms on an EPCIC basis. L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Offshore (LTEH Offshore), a division of Larsen & Toubro, will manage this component of the work. The company stated that these orders reaffirm its position as a trusted partner in India’s offshore energy infrastructure.
Parthasarathi Chatterjee, senior vice president and head of LTEH Offshore, highlighted the importance of these projects: “These orders reaffirm LTEH Offshore’s position as a trusted partner in the development of India’s offshore energy infrastructure. They reflect the confidence customers place in our integrated EPCIC capabilities, extensive project execution experience and unwavering commitment to safety and operational excellence.”
Financial Details and Context
The exact financial terms were not disclosed by L&T, but it indicated that the value lies between 5,000 and 10,000 crore ($525m and $1bn). This is in line with previous mega-projects executed by L&T, according to Splash 247.
Recent Developments at Larsen & Toubro
Notably, this deal comes only days after a massive order from ADNOC Offshore for a project in the Middle East. That contract was described as an ultra-mega contract, placing it above 15,000 crore (over $1.8bn) and falling into L&T’s largest tier of mega-projects.
In another division, L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore secured a contract from the Kuwait Oil Company for work related to the Jurassic Light Oil export facilities in early August 2026. The scope includes engineering, procurement and construction, as well as an upgrade to Kuwait’s existing crude export network.
What this means for operators
The recent orders to Larsen & Toubro from ONGC signify a boost in India’s offshore energy infrastructure development. Ship operators involved in pipeline maintenance and platform installation may see increased demand due to these projects, leading to potentially higher work volumes in the near future. Additionally, the ongoing modernisation efforts by ONGC could drive further investment opportunities for maritime service providers.
