IMEC, the International Maritime Employers’ Council, is an international organisation that advocates for fair and sustainable working conditions in maritime transport. It represents over 300 maritime employers worldwide and negotiates together with the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) on wages and working conditions for seafarers. IMEC was founded in 2003 and offers special agreements, referred to as IBF Agreements, for ships operating under ITF Special Agreements. These agreements are based on social dialogue and consensus and provide equivalent support like TCC Agreements. IMEC oversees various ship and yard types and also offers training initiatives for the future of shipping to secure qualified seafarers.
